Details of the Water-Moon Avalokiteśvara :
The Ornamental Crown and Buddha

Originally, images of Avalokiteśvara bodhisattva featured a Buddha on its ornamental crown. The painting of the ornamental crown is so damaged that it is impossible to confirm whether an image of a Buddha was painted there or not. Here, the Buddha on the left is noteworthy. It is presumed that the Buddha on the left represents the Buddha riding on a cloud that would have appeared in Avalokiteśvara’s crown. This expression is a unique characteristic of the Nara National Museum's Water-Moon Avalokiteśvara.
